Pearl is a spherical object produced by clams, usually pearl oysters.

There are three major varieties of pears:
- freshwater pearls (cultured in China)
- South Sea pearls (Australian, Tahitian, Polynesian)
- Akoya (Japanese sea cultured pearls)

Pearl was the Cleopatra’s favourite gem.

Pearl symbolizes innocence, purity and faith
but also female charm and beauty reminding of its transitory nature.
The average pearl’s life-span is 150 years and unfavourable conditions may speed up its aging process.
After this time it crumbles into a dust.
